AbstractThis is a study of the town of Godmanchester, England, now part of Huntingdon, from the late 13th through the 14th century; an extraordinary series of records, preserved by the borough archivist, made it possible to identify more than 1,300 families from this period, to establish the settlement pattern of the town and its relation to the local agrarian region and larger commercial region, and to envisage the application of custom to family and town life.
