AbstractThe photographer Ernst Schwitters, the son of Kurt Schwitters, lived in Norway from 1937 to 1940 and from 1945 until his death. Having acquired basic skills in photography on his own as a child, he documented many of his father's works. A visit by May Ray in 1929 opened Schwitters' eyes to avant-garde experimentation. He developed the technique of the "classical photogram" and was soon showing his abstract works with success at international exhibitions. In the late forties and fifties - following his return from exile in England - he was regarded as one of Norway's leading photographers. This book offers the first broad overview of the photographic art of Ernst Schwitters. In addition to photograms from the early thirties, the selection focuses on architectural and industrial photographs as well as images of Norwegian landscapes from the collection of the Kurt und Ernst Schwitters Stiftung in Hanover.
