The pilgrim and the book a study of Dante, Langland and Chaucer. The third edition, with iconographical illustrations, discusses the paradigms of pilgrimage from Luke's Gospel and Moses' Exodus, in three fourteenth-century poems, the Commedia, Piers Plowman and the Canterbury Tales, argues that in this period, instead of the martial aristocratic epic, the major genre became that of the democratic and pacific pilgrim poem, whose hero as pilgrim is the poet himself as an Everyman figure, mirroring ourselves as readers. Questa terza edizione, con immagini iconografiche, tratta dei paradigmi di pellegrinaggio dal Vangelo di Luca e dall'Esodo di Mosè in tre poemi del Trecento, la Commedia, Piero l'Aratore, e i Racconti di Canterbury.
